The “Serate di gola” are back

Local food evenings on which you can sample the best of the area’s produce, uniting wholesome and tasty fare. This is what the “Serate di Gola” has on its agenda in April and May: a series of dinners at restaurants belonging to the Association of Small Traditional Hotels and Mountain Hospitality.

The programme is organised under the Interreg Project “Lake Maggiore, its Valleys, its Flavours” by the Chamber of Commerce of the VCO Province, sponsored by the Province, the Comunità Montane, the hoteliers’ and restaurateurs’ associations, some of the most representative of the area’s food producers (the Lake and Mountain Consortium of the Ossola, the VCO Consortium for the Protection of Local Honey, the Ossola Cheese Consortium, the Antigorio Valley Dairy), along with two Swiss associations: the Ticino Mountain Pasture Society and the Gotthard Cheese Dairy.

The “Serate di Gola” offer the chance to enjoy dinners based on local produce; experts and producers will also be on hand to answer any questions about the food and production techniques.

Pride of place at the dinners will be given to bresaola, cheese and honey, in recipes that the participating chefs have created specially for this event.

This initiative fits perfectly into the interreg project “Lake Maggiore, its Valleys, its Flavours”, which has the dual aim of promoting traditional local produce and encouraging consumers to realise the importance that the quality of food has in the quality of life.  And a sure way to appreciate the quality of genuine traditional food is to frequent the restaurants of the Small Traditional Hotels and Mountain Hospitality.  These family-run hotels and restaurants are dedicated to continuing local culinary traditions and fostering affection for the local culture.

The press conference presenting the initiative, to be held on Tuesday 29 March at the Chamber of Commerce in Baveno, will see the participation of the Chamber’s Chairman Tarcisio Ruschetti, the president of the Association of Small Traditional Hotels and Mountain Hospitality Alessandra Balconi, and the president of the VCO Honey Consortium Roberto Campana.  Other participants – experts who have contributed to implementing the project and who will be present at some of the evenings – are Michele Corti, a lecturer in Mountain Animal Breeding and Grazing Systems at the University of Milan, Francesco Nota, a master taster of the National Salami Tasters’ Organisation (O.N.A.S.), and Marco Imperiali, a master taster of the National Cheese Tasters’ Organisation (O.N.A.F.).

The calendar of the nine evenings, with the menus and details of how to contact the restaurants, is available on the sites www.illagomaggiore.com and www.piccolialberghitipici.com.

A free booklet with all the information on the event is also available at the Chamber of Commerce in Baveno.

Booking is essential to take part in the evenings.
