The reduction of food waste, especially in the MICE sector, has been the main theme of Save the Food, the conference dedicated to food waste awareness that took place last June 5 at Grand Hotel Dino, Baveno.
The event, run by Lago Maggiore Meeting Industry in collaboration with Fondazione Banco Alimentare and co-hosted by Federcongressi and Expo2015, has succeded in highlighting the importance of reducing food waste during the events and the need of taking action.
This is why the meeting industry on Lake Maggiore, in collaboration with the Grand Hotel Dino of Baveno, the Regina Palace Hotel and the Grand Hotel Des Iles Borromees of Stresa, has started its project of recollection of surplus breakfast food. Bread, cakes and pastries were distributed to a local charity and consumed by its beneficiaries.
Another initiative within this project was the Green Meeting that brought together some 20 European buyers on Lake Maggiore: during the three-days event, participants got around by bike, enjoyed local food and wine, and travelled from the airport on one bus. A successful sustainable event that makes Lake Maggiore one of the ideal places to organize green meetings and events.
