If you love the outdoors and are looking for thrills (or simply some healthy physical activity in the heart of nature), Northern Piedmont is a true paradise. From the Ossola peaks to the rivers of Valsesia, every season is the right one to get moving.

In winter, the snow-covered expanses of Verbano Cusio Ossola are one of the area’s main strengths, with options for every taste: from the flat kilometers of the Riale Cross-Country Ski Center in Val Formazza to the downhill slopes of Domobianca 365 and San Domenico Ski. The facilities in Macugnaga, in the Anzasca Valley, offer runs with breathtaking views of the eastern face of Monte Rosa.

For adrenaline on the water, Valsesia is the ultimate playground – the kingdom of rafting, kayaking, canyoning, and hydrospeed. The crystal-clear waters and strong current of the Sesia River provide thrilling experiences for both beginners and experts. The Ossola highlands, on the other hand, are the perfect starting point for paragliding flights. Mountain bikers will find their dream trails at the Mottarone Trail Park or on the dedicated routes of Alpe Lusentino.

For those who prefer more relaxing sports, the Golf Club Verbania, located in the heart of the Fondotoce Nature Reserve between Lake Maggiore and Lake Mergozzo, is an excellent choice.

This part of Piedmont also offers an extensive network of hiking trails for all levels, winding through the Alps and the rolling hills of the region.
