Varese Municipal Museum

Varese

The Varese Municipal Museum holds a rich collection of archaeological finds covering periods from prehistory to the late Middle Ages.

The collection is considered particularly important in scientific circles. Objects in the collection come from finds and research that the museum itself has undertaken in a territory rich with evidence of prehistoric and protohistoric life. The museum is currently being refurbished.

After a long period of closure, the ground floor and first floor rooms, dedicated to the history of the region during Roman times, were opened in 2006. Refurbishment work has not yet finished in the east wing of the museum, which will eventually contain the prehistory and protohistory sections.

To offer visitors a preview of the vast amount of material conserved in this section, a temporary space has been set up to display the prestigious second warrior tomb complex from Sesto Calende, packed with evidence of the early iron age Golasecca culture in the Varese area.
