The Gottardo Sud Visitor Infocentre in Pollegio is one location in the Ticino canton you really have to visit. This characteristic centre is built from material extracted from the lower San Gottardo tunnel.
Its exhibition covers an area of over 400 m2, and uses modern audiovisual aids to illustrate a collection of original models and objects of interest, and to provide information on the underground complex, the new San Gottardo tunnel and other mobility related themes. The visit is free.
The Infocentre also has a snack bar where you can grab a bite to eat. The building is accessible to disabled visitors. AlpTransit San Gottardo and the Gottardo Sud Infocentre in Pollegio also offer you a chance to breathe tunnel air in Faido. Every day except Mondays, two groups of up to 24 persons are allowed to enter the very heart of the San Gottardo massif. After a presentation of the tunnel project in the Infocentre’s multimedia hall, the groups proceed along a didactic route through the Faido site. There is a charge for the visit, which lasts about three hours and can be booked at the Gottardo Sud Infocentre.
