The Monterosa Sky Marathon is the event of birth of the skyrunning and also the race most high of Europe; it itself takes place at Alagna Valsesia on the side Valsesian of the massif of the Monte Rosa, in province of Vercelli. Every year athletes coming from all the world challenge themselves in a route that them brings up to the peak of the Monte Rosa, at quota 4554m, crossing moraines, snowfields and glaciers for 35km. In total, the route foresees ascent and descent of 7000m.
The athletes race in teams of two, tied together for safety. From 2025 is introduced a variant, the Monte Rosa SkySummit, of only ascent.
