Tunnels in Kreas Park

1 August 2026
- 31 December 2026

From 1 August, the tunnels of the Kreas Mining Park will officially open to the public; a new experiential trail that takes visitors into the heart of Monte Rosa to discover the area’s mining history. Following the inauguration of the San Lorenzo Museum Complex in 2025, the project is completed with the opening of the mining tunnel, offering an immersive experience combining nature, history and technology.

The guided tour begins at the historic San Lorenzo Factory, where the gold-bearing ore extracted from the valley’s mines was once processed. Here, visitors can learn about the history of gold mining in Valsesia and the ancient processing techniques, before walking along a short, scenic path – a journey of about 15 minutes – to reach the mine entrance.

After being issued with a helmet and safety equipment, visitors enter the tunnel for a tour of around one kilometre, divided into seven themed areas. Multimedia presentations, installations and narrations guide the public on a journey that recounts the formation of the Alps, the geology of Monte Rosa, the daily lives of the miners and the history of gold mining in Valsesia, offering an engaging and immersive experience.

The entire tour lasts around three hours and is designed for a wide audience: the route is also accessible to people with disabilities and families with pushchairs. Inside the mine, the temperature remains constant at between 6 and 8 °C, so it is advisable to wear a light jumper and trainers or walking boots.

The Kreas Mining Park can be reached by car (provided you register your number plate when purchasing your ticket), by the tourist shuttle bus running from Wold Square, or on foot via a pleasant 10–15-minute walk.

Guided tours take place daily, departing at 10.30, 14.30 and 16.00. A full-price ticket costs €25.00, with reduced rates for over-70s and children aged 11 to 14, whilst entry is free for children up to the age of 10.

The programme of events will be further enriched by a truly special occasion: in August, the mining gallery will host its first concert, a one-of-a-kind experience that will see music echoing through the heart of the mountain. The exceptional acoustics of the underground setting will provide the backdrop for a performance featuring a Stradivarius, transforming a visit to the Kreas Mining Park into an even more evocative opportunity to discover the natural and cultural heritage of Alagna Valsesia.
