The Bandir represents an ancient Swiss tradition that has maintained its strength especially in Locarno. It is celebrated every January 31st and is a custom aimed at driving away the cold. Children parade through the streets with tin cans, pans, pots, or drums and make noise with all the strength they have in their bodies: legend has it that the noise produced helps drive away the spirits of winter and awaken those of summer.
This year the meeting for everyone is Saturday, January 31 at 4:15 PM in Piazza S. Antonio in Locarno, while at 4:45 PM the parade will leave for Piazza Grande and back.
At 5:30 PM there will be a snack.
