Walk around Lake Orta

About

Departure time is 07.40 am from Novara, arrival time is 9 am at Gozzano, then move to the beginning of the easy pedestrian path at Gozzano’s Lido and walk along the southwest Orta lake’s bank.

The way lasts about 2 and an half hours, it is entirely flat and reaches Lagna, Prorio, Pascolo with breathtaking views of San Giulio island and pre-Alpine mountains such as Mottarone and Mazzucone, whose tops exceed in height 1400 meters. After a short stop at Pella – in the very heart of this typical lake village -  time to relax in one of the pretty bars  overlooking the lake; at 12.10 pm departure by ferryboat to Orta town.

Arrival time is 12.30 pm then free time for lunch – you have a chance to book a typical restaurant with lake fish menu -  after lunch sightseeing of the ancient village’s silent roads amongst severe-looking buildings and wrought iron balconies.

It is worth mentioning the “Palazzo delle Comunità” built in 1582, the “Parrocchiale” built in 1485 and, over all, the “Sacro Monte”, whose chapels dedicated to San Francesco have been counted among Unesco’s artistic legacy.

Departure time from Orta to Novara is 05.30 pm.
