Description

Omegna has been officially awarded the title of European City of Sport for 2019

The accolade was presented at the CONI Hall of Honour, held at the Foro Italico in Rome, and is the culmination of just over two months of work completed by Marchioni and his councillors, who from the end of last August to mid-October have managed to bring together all 43 of Omegna’s sporting associations to work on the project application as a team.

Francesco Perrone stressed, “As the City of Sport for 2019, Omegna will officially become part of a European Network and we must ensure that we use this opportunity to its full potential, above all with regard to increasing the visibility of our city, both in Italy and abroad. 2018 will be dedicated to organising a series of European championships, scheduled to take place in 2019, and managing applications for European funding to help develop and enhance Lake Orta and its sports training facilities”.
