About

Throughout the Verbano Cusio Ossola province lovers of snow and winter sports can find ski areas offering downhill skiing, cross-country skiing, ski mountaineering, snowboarding and snowshoeing.

Macugnaga, the prime resort in the area, has over 35 kilometres of runs on the Monte Rosa massif, as well as 2 cross-country circuits, which make the area a real skiers’ paradise. The runs are divided between the two areas of Belvedere and Monte Moro (altitude 3,000 metres), and include all degrees of difficulty, whether you are a complete beginner or an expert.

The Belvedere area, served by two chairlifts and a surface lift, is right at the foot of Monte Rosa, and is accessible from Pecetto, the last hamlet in Macugnaga before the mountain. At the start of this area there is also a Snow Park for small children.

You reach the Monte Moro area by two cableways from the hamlet of Staffa; once on the mountain (3,000 metres) the runs and the well-equipped snowboard park are served by three surface lifts and a chairlift. The view from here is quite stunning: a close-up of the Monte Rosa massif in all its breathtaking majesty.

Ski mountaineering and snowshoeing enthusiasts are well catered for with unique itineraries around the villages or in the nearby Quarazza Valley.
