This short break will take you from the universal exhibition on sustainability, technology and agriculture to the magnificent gardens, antique artwork and baroque and liberty architecture of Stresa and the Borromean Gulf. Experience the contrast between the global, multicultural event and the historical charm of the Borromean Islands.
PROGRAMME
1st day
Arrival, check-in at 3* Hotel in Stresa, dinner in a gourmet restaurant located in the heart of Stresa.
2nd day
After breakfast you leave Stresa to visit the Expo 2015 in Milan. The theme of this years universal exhibition is Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life: a topic that underlines the importance of sustainability and connects traditional cultural values with the use of new technology in the food- and agricultural industries, paying attention to the impact on the planet. The brand new exhibition area extends over 1,1 million square meters where the 140 participating countries can welcome the estimated 20 million visitors during the 6 month exhibition. The site is divided into pavilions and nine different clusters, each one with a specific theme spanning from chocolate and spices to agriculture in arid zones. There are also thematic areas like the Future Food District, a Biodiversity Park and an area dedicated to Food & Art as well as restaurants, bars and shops. The site is reachable by car or by train with departure from Baveno, Stresa and Verbania. By car the journey will take about 55 minutes and there are parking possibilities adjacent to the site. By train you will comfortably reach the site directly from Stresa without intermediate train changes. Times and fares vary based on the type of train. Opening hours of the exhibition: from 10 a.m. until 11 p.m. You are free to choose your own schedule according to what best suits your needs. Back to the hotel and overnight.
3rd day
After breakfast, by private motorboat you reach the Borromean Islands. First stop: Isola Madre (Mother island) to visit its magnificent lush garden which hosts not only exotic plants and trees but also beautiful peacocks, pheasants and other birds. You will continue to Isola Bella (Beautiful island) with its incredible baroque palace and Italian-style-garden with its ten terraces overlooking the lake, after which you will have a delicious 3-course lunch at the island’s Ristorante Elvezia. Your last stop of the day is Isola Superiore dei Pescatori (Fishermen's island) where you can enjoy a stroll through the narrow alleys and browse the typical shops of the medieval village. Back to the hotel and overnight.
4th day
After breakfast, check-out and departure.
