The route is the one used in 1574 by Charles Borromeo during his pastoral visit to Cannobio’s Church. The itinerary connects the Santuario di Re  in the Vigezzo Valley with the Santuario della pietà Church in Cannobio. The itinerary allows you to discover the most beautiful corner of the valley.

The route:

From Re station you can go up to the Sanctuary, then go on in direction of Locarno and immediately after the primary schools you can take the cycle and pedestrian path  N.1 Re – Malesco. You go past the beautiful stone bridge of Pozzo Maglione, then continue on the cycle path until you see the signs for trail M18 that goes up to Pian dei Sali and Finero. From Finero follow the road up to Creves and at the entrance of the tunnel take the road on the right (closed for cars) that leads to the monument in memory of the massacre of October 12th 1944 during which the partisan commanders Alfredo Di Dio and Attilio Moneta were killed. Continue until you cross the end of tunnel and go on the road up to the crossroads for Cursolo that you will follow until you arrive in the centre of the village. From Cursolo through a nice mule track you will reach  Orasso and The Albergo Belvedere, where you can make a stop overnight.  On the second day, the itinerary continues for Spoccia, Gurrone and Cavaglio until you reach Traffiume. From this point you can go down to visit the’”Orrido di Sant’Anna” gorges and then take the cycle path that goes along the torrent Cannobino until the second bridge, then through small internal  roads you will cross the town centre of  Cannobio and arrive at the lake front.
