General Description:

Short itinerary to discover Colloro, inside the National Park of Val Grande and departure/arrival point for the classical crossing of Val Grande. The itinerary is part of a territory symbol of thousands of years of struggle for the survival of a mountain community,  where the verticality becomes the foundation of an economy bound to seasonal movements and works of terracing.

The route:

Departing from the station follow for Corso Marconi until you cross Via Sempione and take the direction for Piazza della Chiesa Parrocchiale di Santa Maria Assunta. You will cross the center of Premosello with beautiful mansions and then start on the old mule track leading to the hamlet of Colloro, which stands on a beautiful sunny terrace, passing through  terraced fields once cultivated with rye. Along the trail are placed 12 information panels describing with pictures and short texts the life of a mountain community. Colloro has some old rural buildings dating back to 1500 and 1600: some are only ruins but many have been recovered carefully and harmoniously. In front of the Church of San Gottardo, the track passes nearby the chapel with the Madonna di Re’s fresco in front of which passed the mountaineers and the animals before going up to summer pastures. You will go back to  Premosello by making a circular walk continuing along the track going down and cutting the hairpin bends of the road.
