By train: Stresa station, Ferrovie dello Stato. Timetables: www.trenitalia.it; www.ffs.ch.
By car: A26 motorway in direction of Gravellona Toce, from the South: exit for Carpugnino. From the North: exit for Baveno.  Follow indications for Stresa and town center.

The route:    

Stresa, the “Queen” of the Lake Maggiore, is located in a beautiful panoramic and is chacaterized by the abundance of villas, parks, gardens and a spectacular lakeside in harmony with the ever-changing show offered by the Borromeo Islands and the Mount Mottarone.
The Isola Bella is characterized by its great baroque palace containing priceless works of art including tapestries, furniture and paintings. The precious “Italian” garden surrounding the palace is characterized by ornated and overlying terraces, enriched by a variety of plants and flowers. The Isola Pescatori is a typical fishermen village crossed by a network of streets and passages suddenly opening on the beautiful views of the lake, and offers very good and typical nice restaurants. The Isola Madre, the biggest of the Borromeo Islands, is dominated by the palace from the 16th century that, in addition to the furnishings of the various residences of the Borromeo family, has an important collection of puppets and puppets theaters from the 18th century, surrounded by  the great park famous for its blooming of azaleas, rhododendrons and camellias.
From Stresa you can reach, in a few minutes by the cableway, the top of the Mottarone, situated between the Lake Maggiore and the Lake of Orta, considered one of the most panoramic natural balcony on the territory. From the top of the Mottarone the view extends from the Po Valley to the peaks of the Alps. It is possible to walk on easy circular  trails offering unique views completely immersed in nature.
