Churches
The spirituality of the people has never stopped expressing itself through the construction of cathedrals and churches, and the territory of the lake is surrounded by "sacred monuments". Mysticism, religion and art are entwined in ancient and beautiful churches.
It is difficult to say which is the most beautiful. Certainly in talune, for history and construction, they have reached an incredibly notable cultural and historic value.
In the territory of Lake Maggiore, to give an example,the Churh of San Gottardo, in Carmine Superioire (a village in Cannobio) is an example of "castled" architecture. There are no foundations, but the church is constructed directly on the rocks. Then there are "hidden" chuches in the valleys of the territory, in the mountains. Wherever there is life, there is a church and in every church there is art inspired by God.
There is also no shortage of sanctuaries, like that of Madonna del Boden in Ornavasso or that of the crucifix of Boca, not forgetting Madonna di Re, an imposing structure and witness to the miracle during the Counter-Reformation period and which attracts thousands of pilgrims every year.
It is incredibly difficult to choose the best of these sacred places where art and faith " since the beginning - are merged.
