Flavours of the Lake
Fish lovers can enjoy the tasty opportunities available on Lake Maggiore. Starting from the bass, the fish which is the symbol of the lake. To return to its origins one has to go as far back as Mesopotamia and on the Nile delta. Then, it was inserted in the Ancient Egyptian diet, being lovers of tender and delicate meats.
In the lake's restaurants it is served in delicious fillets or as the main ingredient of magnificent risotto dishes. Besides bass there are many other species, including bleak, trout, char, tench, carp, pike and whitefish.
In the lake area's numerous restaurants you can taste all of the above, cooked in many ways: fried in batter, served doused in vinegar, pickled or inserted in new and old recipes.
