NewsOwl watching in the park
To mark the European Parks Day on 31st May 2008, many activities and events have been planned in the various parks throughout our territory. To celebrate this day the Parco dei Lagoni in Mercurago has organised a special initiative dedicated to all ages. During the evening of 31st May visitors can walk through the park whilst hearing the sound of nocturnal predatory birds.
A park ranger will stimulate the birds with a call, making them believe that an intruder is attempting to invade their hunting round. The nocturnal birds of prey will respond to this call allowing those present to locate them. To take part in Notte dei Gufi all you need to do is present yourself at the Park HQ in Via Gattico, 6 in Mercurago at 21.00 wearing a pair of comfortable walking shoes. A torch will not be needed as the light from the almost full moon should be sufficient. The walk is also suitable for children and will last about two hours, with many stops to discover the habits of owls and tawny owls.
On the same day various other activities will be on offer in the other protectect areas. The Valgrande park, for example, is offering free visits to its Acquamondo exhibition in Cossogno while in Malesco, ath the Archeological Museum, the Italian Touring Club presents the conference "La cultura dell'ospitalita e la tutela dell'ambiente nel programma Bandiere arancioni " (the culture of hospitality and the protection of the environment in the Orange flag programme). In addition the Devero Park Association has organised a cultural- food and wine excursion for trekking lovers in the panoramic Valle di Binn Park, in nearby Switzerland.
