The 2011 edition of “Giro d’Italia”, a bike ride that, next year, celebrates the 150th anniversary of the unification of Italy, has been announced. Two localities in the province of Verbano Cusio Ossola will be touched by the sporting event: Verbania and Macugnaga.

The nineteenth step of the tour, programmed for 27th May 2011, will be the Bergamo - Macugnaga (211 km) and the twentieth, scheduled for 28th May, sets the start in Verbania and the finish in Sestriere (242 km).
