About

The Museo del Paesaggio in its evocative spaces of Palazzo Viani Dugnani exhibits to the public the most significant collection of works of art from Lake Maggiore.

Paintings and sculptures, from the late 19th to the early 20th century, tell of the area's ability to attract and host artists and patrons of international importance: Daniele Ranzoni, Paolo Troubetzkoy, Paolo Veronese, Arturo Martini, among others.

Founded in 1909 as the Historical Artistic Museum of Verbano and Adjacent Valleys by the will of Antonio Massara. In 1914 it assumed its current name of Museo del Paesaggio, with the aim of fostering the study of the region's natural and artistic beauty and promoting its protection, and found a new home in the city-owned Viani-Dugnani 17th-century palace. Currently, Palazzo Viani Dugnani, completely renovated in its layout, houses the painting and sculpture collections. The most substantial and significant nucleus of the picture gallery is represented by Lombard and Piedmontese painting of the late 19th and early 20th centuries with important works by Guido Boggiani, Arnaldo Ferraguti, Daniele Ranzoni and Mario Tozzi. The sculpture section includes the gipsoteca, which houses 340 works by Impressionist sculptor Paolo Troubetzkoy (1866-1938) and the significant nuclei of works by Giulio Branca (1850-1926)-representative of nineteenth-century commemorative and historical re-enactment sculpture-and Arturo Martini (1889-1947), considered the most important Italian sculptor between the wars.

Dedicated services for families

Since 2024, the Museo del Paesaggio has been recognized as Family and kids friendly thanks to the physical accessibility of the spaces, the presence of material dedicated to little ones (changing tables, booster seats, baby carriers) and areas dedicated to families. In fact, there is a Unicef-accredited Baby Pit Stop, so you can breastfeed and change your baby, and a relaxation area with a Born to Read corner: a place dedicated to the little ones and the family, where you can spend moments of rest, reading, and play. Numerous titles are available for the little ones: illustrated books and books dedicated to art and museums. Thanks to the Museum's accreditation to the project Born with Culture, free admission to the Museum is provided, through the Cultural Passport, for every newborn until their first birthday with the family unit (up to 2 accompanying persons). Every third Wednesday of the month free admission for expectant mothers as part of the profect Culture is Life promoted by Lions club Verbania and Asl Vco Infant Maternity Department.
