NewsA tour along the Via degli scalpellini
As Autumn arrives the landscape takes on new colours, creating a different, more suggestive atmosphere. For this reason the Cusio Councils in collaboration with the EcoMuseo Cusius have organised a non-competitive special walk on Sunday 7th October for all trekking fans.
La via degli scalpellini [the stonemason's path] is the name given to this initiative which will allow participants to discover ancient paths that brought the stonemasons to their workplaces, in caves and other places left to the memory.Along this 12km path, leaving from and arriving in Pella, various checkpoints will allow you to see some particularly suggestive spots and to visit historic and cultural places of interest, made even more special thanks to the colours of autumn.
The first checkpoint of the route is San Maurizio d'Opaglio where the recently restored church will be visited as well as the Museo del Rubinetto [Tap Museum], the only museum in the world that retraces the social history of water and man's creations to control it. The following checkpoint is at Madonna del Sasso to visit the Sanctuary situated on a rocky spur overlooking Lake Maggiore and the Alps
After stopping for lunch the walk continues towards Boleto to visit the Museo dello scalpellino [stonemason's museum], which tells the story of this ancient and arduous job.The final stage of the route is in Centonara to visit the Church of Santa Maria Maddalena and the ancient mill. The trek is free of charge, but enrolment is necessary and must be completed by Thursday 4th October 2007.
