NewsThe 2007 “Dul Scarghè” festival

The 2007 “Dul Scarghè” festival

As always, September brings the return of the event based on the mountains and those who work in the Alpine pastures with their cattle. We are, of course, talking about the Festa dul Scarghè, the festival celebrated annually in piana del Devero in Valle Antigorio Divedro Formazza, which co-incides with the festival of the Crampiolo Oratory. From dawn till dusk on 15th and 16th September, the descent of the cattle from Alpine pastures downstream will be celebrated following a summer of hard work.

A highly symbolic event, the Festa dul Scarghè brings past times back to life and offers participants images of a simple lfe, made up of tasks and rythmns with strict deadlines. Following the traditional mass at the Crampiolo Oratory, an offertory will be held at the church parvis. The day then continues with games for children and a chance to have a meal with particular emphasis of the local food and drink culture. There are even some demonstrations of the traditional cheese-making process of Ossola cheeses in some Alpine cheese dairies followed by an opportunity to tickle your taste buds with the end product. The initiative is promoted by the Alpe Crampiolo Consortium, Veglia-Devero Parks Association and Baceno Council.
