NewsLagoMaggiore LetterAltura: the first mountain literature festival is born
Culture in all shapes and forms but closely linked to the mountains: this is what the Cultural Association LetterAltura [meaning high literature] has brought by projecting the first Mountain Literature Festival, Lago Maggiore LetterAltura, scheduled in Verbania and the Verbano Cusio Ossola area for June and July 2007.
This international event, aimed at adding value to the territory, mainly the mountainous parts, unites the passion for the mountains, for exploration and adventure to literature and tales linked to the theme. The Verbano Cusio Ossola territory's characteristics, dominated by The Alps, become a source of unlimited inspiration for the sense of vertical adventure they create.
The festival opens on 28th June in the town of Verbania, where for the following four days there will be presentations, conversations with writers, readings, cinema, debates, photographic displays, music events and several other events linked to the Festival's main theme. This will all be supported by the other events on offer in the Valli dell'Ossola, on Lake Orta and Verbano area over the July weekends.
Among the big names present during the festival are Enrico Capanni, Mauro Corona and Luca Mercalli, together with names closely linked to the mountains such as Erri De Luca and Alain Robert plus many others.
LetterAltura has also initiated a series of collateral projects in order to involve all aspects of the territory with particular onus on the schools within the province, which have been invited to play an active role throughout the Festival. One project is a competition for high schools involved in the creation of a package holiday of a week within the VCO territory, which considers the cultural reason that would entice tourists to choose this area for their holidays another project is being held in collaboration with the "Quasimodo" Secondary School in Verbania. This is the X edition of the Literary Competition "Villa Laura" which involves the creation, by the children, of adventure and exploration stories set in the mountains. The awards ceremonies for both competitions will be held during the first edition of the Festival.
