Patron Saint’s Day: 22 January

Novara’s Patron Saint is San Gaudenzio, the first Bishop of Novara, and his day is celebrated on 22 January.

Festivities last for two days and attract thousands to the historic centre of the city, where there is a traditional market of dozens of stalls selling local crafts and produce, as well as the cake known as “San Gaudenzio’s bread”, made and sold only in Novara. Once available only on the Saint’s day, it can now be sampled all year long.

In addition to the market, festivities include ceremonies and visits to the Basilica, as well as other cultural events. You can also visit the Saint’s tomb inside the Basilica.
