About

The ancient origins of the hamlet of Lortallo near Ameno have emerged in archaeological discoveries from the Iron Age and the period of imperial Rome.

The old village, set on a little hill with a marvellous view of Lake Orta and the majestic massif of Monte Rosa beyond, has managed to keep its genuine character over the years.

You can choose one of two routes from Lortallo to explore the surroundings. One takes you on a wide circuit past the fine substantial villas overlooking the lake, which are a feature of the Ameno area. The other leads to the top of the hill, where there is a large number of picturesque old stone-built country houses.

On the hill there is also a medieval tower dating from the 13th century and the pretty oratory of San Grato.
