Point of interestThe village of Miasino
Miasino
The beautiful village of Miasino lies half way up the hillside on the western shore of Lake Orta.
Originally a Gaulish settlement, Miasino was favoured by bourgeois or aristocratic families in the 17th and 18th centuries who built the many fine old houses that characterise the village. One of the most elegant houses on Lake Orta stands right in the centre of the village: Villa Nigra, which features grand interior loggias, granite and wrought iron balustrades, and valuable frescoes.
Places of artistic and historical interest include the Parish Church of San Rocco, now declared a national monument, which has in its interior a 17th century marble altar as well as important paintings and frescoes. Another attraction is the Parish Church of the village of Pisogno, which has a highly unusual Baroque façade.
Miasino’s location on a wooded plateau between the Motta di Carcegna and the mountains of Formica and La Guardia makes it an excellent starting point for nature rambles.
