In Suna, one of the villages making up the town of Verbania, there is a particular type of petroglyph not found elsewhere.

This is the so-called “Nine men’s morris” engraving, representing the board for the ancient game also known as “Mill” or “Merels”.

There are dozens of examples of the engraving, of an average size of 30x30cm, and they can be seen in old courtyards and various other parts of the village, including the Church of San Fabiano, where the engraving appears on the steps up to the church, on the little square, at the entrance, and on a pillar in the interior.

In Suna there are also other kinds of engravings, for example two anthropomorphic and/or dendrogram (tree-shaped) engravings in the historic centre: one on the keystone of a doorway in a courtyard in Via Brofferio, and the other on a door lintel in a courtyard in Via dei Partigiani.
