NewsThe Walser culture meets the Langhe and Roero Culture, 2010 edition
Two cultures and two populations with two different traditions will meet at the foot of Monte Rosa on 17th and 18th July: the Walser on one side and the Langhe and Roero on the other. Two cultures from the same region will be united by one food and drink festival and a series of unmissable events.
Things get underway on Saturday with the opening of the food and drink festival with produce from both of the Piedmont locations typical wooden market stalls will give those present the chance to admire, taste and buy several typical products from the lower Piedmont region, including renowned red wines from Langhe and Roero or famed cheeses and cold meats from Ossola. In addition to food and drink, plenty of hand-crafted goods such as necklaces will be available as well as objects made of wood, stone and cloth, not forgetting embroidery.
A treat for the eyes, nose and palate, then, with traditionally dressed women parading the streets of Macugnaga and an evening dedicated to the cuisine and flavours of both of the Piedmont territories. As a matter of fact, chefs from Ossola and Langhe will prepare a typical meal which will unite the cuisine of the mountains to that of the hills.
On Sunday there will be a traditional exhibition in Piazza di Pecetto and Piazza di Staffa (town squares) of the Alba Flag Bearers with their typical red and yellow costumes. The twinning will continue with an exchange of products and a planting ceremony of the Langhe, Roero and Ossola vines.
